July 2025 – Cycling with Purpose: Why My Dad and His Team Ride for the Shiva Temple Manchester by Harshini Ashok Kumarr.

Every year, while many people cycle for fitness or fun, my dad, Ashok, and his devoted team—the MAMLS—ride with a deeper purpose: to support and uplift the Shiva Temple that stands at the heart of our Hindu community. What began as a humble effort has blossomed into a beloved tradition—an expression of faith, dedication, and unity on two wheels. For my dad and his team, the cycling route is more than just a road to be travelled; it’s a spiritual journey. Every mile they cover echoes their devotion and commitment to a cause greater than themselves. Whether it’s the unexpected heat of an English summer, sore muscles, flat tyres, or the grueling climbs, they press forward with unshakable focus. From 10 km to 100 km, their perseverance is driven not by competition, but by compassion and purpose. This year, the event brought together 16 passionate riders, supported by four team managers and a joyful crowd of family and friends. The day was filled with determination, celebration, and community spirit. One of the most cherished moments! The special Indian lunch prepared with love—a welcome reward that helped the cyclists recharge after their long ride. It’s thoughtful traditions like these that transform this fundraiser into something deeper: a celebration of togetherness and enduring community spirit. The effort wasn’t just about kilometers and calories—it was about impact. Together, my dad and his team raised vital funds to help keep the Shiva Temple thriving: clean, welcoming, and open to all who seek peace, prayer, and connection. The money raised may go toward fixing the roof, brightening prayer halls, keeping the lights on, or supporting treasured festivals and cultural activities. But beyond the bricks and bills, it fuels something far more lasting: a place where people of all ages can come to feel calm, connected, and proud of their faith. To me, this ride is more than an annual event—it’s a symbol of what we can achieve when we move with purpose and come together for something greater than ourselves. With love and gratitude, Harshini Ashok Kumarr
